Have you ever experienced a mental over-load? Well that’s what I’ve been experiencing lately; too many things clouding my mind and my judgment. So I have been on a quest to let go of the unnecessary things that started to consume me. Sometimes we have to realize that we can’t
control everything around us, but we do have a choice in how we react!

You have to walk away from a situation in order to come back with a clearer frame of mind. Learn to break things down and once you have them broken all apart you can then begin to restructure them to fit back into your life. After that I would hope we are all better equipped to handle whatever comes our way and it won’t shake us to our core. So what I have decided to do for me personally was implement some quiet time (reflection so to speak) just for myself to reconnect with my thoughts and filter out the things that have no place in my life. Some of the things I have changed are the things I read, my iPod selections and the conversations I entertain.

I never realized how the small things begin to have a huge impact. If we don’t start to change certain outside factors it will weigh heavily on our mental well-being. So in order to be the best me possible, I had to delete and reprogram. The life I desire to live was not lining up with the things that were surrounding me. So I invite you to join me on this journey, and start to delete and reprogram!

So lately I haven’t been feeling as confident as I normally would. I am feeling extremely bloated and just heavier than usual. I have picked up more than a couple of pounds lately, my normal weight of 140 pounds have turned into 155. I know some women would love to be 155, but when you are only 5’1 it seems a lot heavier. I just don’t feel like my normal self so I am going to see my physician next week. I am going to get to the bottom of this weight gain and indescribable feeling. It doesn’t matter what you wear, how your hair is styled or how flawless your makeup is, if you don’t feel your best (health wise) nothing else matters! A lot of times we as women simply ignore what’s going on because we are too busy with family, work and attending the latest social event. I urge everyone to take some time out and get yourself thoroughly checked out be your trusted medical advisors. I know what I am feeling there is an explanation and I will share my findings with you all because I think it’s important to inform women of the different issues that can happen to our body that allows us not to feel 100% okay. Okay now the girly side of things is this bloaty/heavy feeling has really affected my wardrobe as well, I don’t want my clothes clinging to closely to my body because I feel like people are watching or somehow can see something that may not be there at all! I know this may be my imagination running wild. I haven’t been really putting on anything glamorous or girly because really I have not felt like doing anything other than just existing.

So it’s been like 100 degrees in Georgia lately (more like 97 degrees) but who keeping up! I have just been feeling really hot and sweaty. I decided to reduce the amount of makeup I put on my face since it just runs off anyway after being in the scorching hot sun. The only thing I am wearing on my face in under eye concealer, a little pressed powder to set my concealer, blush with bronzer on top and of course touching up the eyebrows and the famous lip gloss. Nothing more, nothing less! I have been getting so many compliments on my “non” makeup look. It’s unbelievable the less you do to your face and just highlight keys areas, people seem to rave about it! I think from now on this is going to be my makeup selections. But as you all know I am a product person and I just love to buy makeup. But besides getting compliments, my face just feels cleaner, fresher and it looks healthier. So this is a win-win situation!

So yesterday I cracked open my issue of Essence Magazine and there was an article about black women rocking bold and colorful makeup. YAHOO! My prayers have been answered, someone is finally telling “us“ we don’t have to limit ourselves to what color eyeshadow or lip color we can wear. I get so annoyed hearing women of color should stick to flesh tone colors or more subtle colors. Flesh tone colors are great but I believe a woman of any race can rock any color she is bold and confident enough to wear! I’m not saying neon greens or oranges are appropriate for every occasion but heck if that’s what you feel liking wearing go ahead and give it a try! I think we are blessed with the most amazing features and skin tones that we should really start showing it off more. I am a colorful girl by nature and I love stepping outside the box with my look and playing with colors. So when I seen Essence Magazine do spread on women of color doing some bold makeup choices my heart leaped! I am also going on a little makeup shopping spree just to incorporate some of the colors from the article because I thought they were absolutely amazing. The Essence issue I am referring to is the most recently released one with Beyoncé on the cover. You should check it out!

It seems to be unseasonably hot this Spring/Summer! It’s hard to tell what season we are in when it comes to living in Georgia. But it’s not officially Summer yet but with 95 degree weather who can tell. I usually rock 18-20 inches of long flowing tresses! But right now after such hot weather in Miami (yes I rocked 18 inches in MIA) and then to return to such hot and humid weather in Georgia I am currently rocking 10 inches of Indian Wavy Hair. All I have to do is wet it and go! It works perfect because you still have a polished and cute look but without all the extra hair. Don’t get me wrong I will return to my long flowing hair but right now I am just HOT. I can’t seem to cool off quick enough. I admire the women who can go all spring/summer with the long lengths of hair I just can’t right now. I seem to always be on the go and before you know it I am sweating up a storm, pulling hair back and trying to keep it out of my face. I must admit this is a huge transition for me, but I am liking the look so far. I think I will try to keep this up for at least two to three weeks; that should hopefully give the weather a chance to return to 80-85 degrees after some much-needed rain. I know some people don’t think that little drop in temperature would make a difference but it does. I would love to know what hairstyles everyone else is rocking for this HOT/HUMID weather. Post a comment and let me know your suggestions.

Okay so I went to Miami over Memorial weekend and spent more than enough time lying out in the sun. I mean I was soaking it all in! It felt nice! But when I returned to the hotel after a couple of hours I was 10 shades darker (not stretching the truth). I was really upset about getting so tanned. I know people would kill to tan so easily but it wasn’t flattering to my skin complexion. I am guessing because I didn’t evenly tan.

My theory has always been that I was born with a beautiful complimentary tan, why would I need to tan any further. Now I have become obsessed with the correct way I should have tanned. I really should have thought about this before since I was going to be in the sun. So according to some research I should have exfoliated my skin first, removing any dead skin making the skin extremely smooth. Secondly you should moisturize well; this part I did! Apply sunscreen SPF of at least 15 and reapply every 15 to 30 minutes as necessary.

Third you should move around regularly. #Failed!! I just relaxed in one place the whole time with the exception of running back to the water to cool off. Limit your time in the sun to 2-3 hours each day. Oh boy! I spent at least 2 hours on the beach in the sun 2 to 3 times per day. Finally shower and re-moisturize!

After reading all this information, I will definitely be smarter about lying out in the sun. Not only was I not happy with the tan pattern I neglected use sunscreen and my shoulders got sun burned (black girl with sun burn). I really did over think this when I got back home because it’s a constant reminder when I look in the mirror of what not to do. I know now for future reference.

When people hear the word budget, it puts a damper on the mood (it shouldn’t but it does). The word budget makes you think of being on punishment as a kid. You are restricted in the amount of money you can spend. Budgeting doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You can still be cute, fashionable, and wise with your money-all things are possible (one of my favorite sayings)! There are several places to purchase stylish and affordable clothing. Try out your local consignment shops; at consignment shops you can purchase designer clothes such as Juicy Couture; which is one of my favorite brands. There are tons of outlet malls for example Tanger Outlet which is located in Commerce, GA or North Georgia Outlets in Dawsonville, GA. By all means don’t give up on the clothes you already have, clothes go in and out of style faster than ever. Also, try accessories to spruce up a few items. New accessories can revitalize any wardrobe and change the whole appearance of the outfit, the same can be said about a great pair of shoes! If you are good at spotting diamonds in the rough don’t forget to visit local yard or garage sales. As the saying goes another diva’s trash is another diva’s treasures, lol (that totally justed popped into my head). Last but definitely not least visit the malls during the holiday sales or when the season is getting ready to change. Buy clothes and shoes off-season and you will definitely be one up on the next season. The best advice I can give when it comes to shopping on a budget is to please purchase quality items, this too can be done on a budget. There is nothing worse than purchasing an item that’s going to tear up after two washes. Obviously if you are shopping at different places for the affordable prices you would only choose quality clothing, since the point is to be on a budget. Remember it doesn’t have to break the bank to be cute. I think often times we (yes, me included) limit ourselves in where we can purchase items we need and want. Yes, we all would like to have the latest designer outfits worn by our favorite celebrity. There is nothing wrong with that especially when you are financially able to afford those things. Be wise when it comes to spending on clothes, shoes and accessories or anything for the matter. You need to budget and plan accordingly if and when you add more expensive items to your wardrobe. Do everything in moderation! I know fashion is supposed to be fun, but being broke is not cute and definitely not FUN. So with that being said happy shopping to you all and let me know what you find.

I love springtime, not only does the weather brightens up, but I get the change to spruce up my wardrobe. I love the energy and the euphoric feeling I get when the seasons change. One of the things that excite me most are the colors options that are available when spring is approaching. Is it just me, but do the department stores even seem brighter? When winter is ending I revisit my closet and see what needs to be packed away or donated and what I can reuse this season from last season. Also, I take into consideration what style am I going for this time around. I feel different with every season (not always do I follow the latest fashion trends because some looks I just can’t pull off or they don’t suite my personality. This past winter was unseasonably cold, and so I knew that I would want some bright colors to welcome in the warmer weather. So as I narrowed down a few things I need to add to my wardrobe selection; here is what I was thinking. This is my rough draft so to speak! I am looking for that must have dress that can be worn at work and as well as social events. A nice color coral or yellow ruffled down shirt, some oh so cute casual trouser shorts. I figured I would keep the reliable boyfriend blazer for the chilly nights! I am still in love with skinny jeans, especially the distress looking skinny jeans. I love the way they look on and the way I feel when I am in those jeans. Yes, my clothes have to feel and look good! But everyone should have a pair of classic jeans that can be dressed up or down for any event. Heels, heels and more heels!!! I am all about platform peep toe heels (red, black and cream) are my most go to colors when I’m just keeping it simple. But not every day is a platform heel day or occasion so always have a pair of classic embellished flats to dress down any look or to simply make those feet feel more comfortable while looking cute. You can’t forget your handbag! I know everyone loves clutches and they are appropriate for the nightlife and most social gatherings, but I love my oversized handbags. I normally carry a black or brown oversized handbag in the winter. This spring I am on the hunt for an oversized handbag in the best and brightest colors (I’m thinking mustard, orange, red, deep greens with gold embellishing). After so much black and brown a girl needs a good bit of colors to living up the scene! So here’s to a happy, warm and bright Spring!

So today was the first day I used apple cider vinegar on my face and boy does it smell! I saw it on a couple of You-tube videos; I instantly became curious about what are the benefits of using such an inexpensive product. After seeing and reading others comments of using the Apple Cider Vinegar I did some additional research on the benefits on Apple Cider Vinegar. At first I was looking for the more vain reasons to use Apple Cider Vinegar. While I was doing my research I realized that Apple Cider Vinegar could be used for quite a few things such as weight loss, to detox or cleanse your body, and it can also help to lower your glucose levels ( in some diabetics if taken correctly). PLEASE consult with your physician before using this product for any of the reasons mentioned. I have strictly been doing internet research and decided what I have to lose! But back to the reasons I wanted to try Apple Cider Vinegar in the first place. I heard via a You-tube post that it helps to make you skin clearer among doing other things such as an aspirin mask (that’s a later post). It seems like the older I get the more trouble I am having with my skin. I am having just the most random sudden outbreaks. I have been trying a series of things, such as increasing my water intake, revisiting my diet seeing if there is anything I can remove and or improve upon. I have been going to my dermatologist as well, but that can get costly after a while. I am trying to pin point what the culprit of this mild acne outbreak is and how to cut it off. If the reducing acne wasn’t enough here are a few more uses for Apple Cider Vinegar. It is said to help with adding body and shine to your hair if used as a rinse after your normal shampoo, reduce the pain of bad sunburn, helps reduce the size of pimples and fades age spots (it acts as a toner), and last but not least reduces the swelling in your feet after walking in the 5-6 inch stilettos all day long (LADIES). I will keep you all updated on the progress via twitter, so be sure to follow me @kekerachel.

So hello everyone! I haven’t forgotten about my precious Prissy Cafe. I have been really taking some time to research and work out the details of what I want Prissy Cafe to represent. When I initially thought about starting this blog, I figured it would be easy breezy. WRONG! It’s so multilayered. When you start a blog, initially you write about what interests you or what you love to do, right? That was my initial thought process, been then I started thinking about how this blog could become my business. The more I began to really get into it, I realized that it had to be done right! I wouldn’t dare attach my name to something that I wasn’t pleased with and then try to present it to the world, ABSOLUTELY NOT. So that’s why I’ve been taking my time and developing my craft. I hope you guys continue to be patient with me as I take this journey one step at a time. I don’t want to rush the process; because I want this to be a platform that lasts. So what’s next… I am scheduled to do a photo shoot for the blog and really formulate my look! I super excited about this upcoming shoot. I am toying with a couple of looks for the blog and a couple of universal looks that represent the over all brand of Prissy Cafe. I can’t wait to share all the details with everyone. This is going to be an AMAZING experience and I can’t wait to share it all.
